The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a reported armed robbery that occurred at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the 500 block of Congress Street near Ballard Street and Michigan Avenue. Police reported later this week that they may have identified the suspect.

On April 24, the Eastern Michigan University Student Senate ratified the results of the 2014 general election of the student body, making Desmond Miller the official student body president for the 2014-2015 school year. Some members of the senate and other students are calling this ratification into question, stating that a quorum was not reached at the April 24 special Senate meeting.

At a special Student Senate meeting Thursday night, the results of the 68th general election of the student body were ratified by the Senate – including the Presidential, Vice Presidential and Senatorial elections. Desmond Miller will officially serve as President with Steven Cole as his Vice President.

The Desmond Miller/Steven Cole ticket was named the winner of the 2014 Eastern Michigan University Student Government Presidential election on Saturday. The write-in ticket of Fatma Jaber/Chris VanWashenova was disqualified for multiple campaign violations, according to a report issued by student government Election Commission Chair Nto Mbeng Agbor.
