EMU names new financial boss

Michael Valdes has been named the new Chief Financial Officer for Eastern Michigan University pending approval of the Board of Regents. Valdes replaces John Lumm who had served as EMU’s CFO since 2008. The CFO’s primary responsibility is to provide budget management, monitor liquidity positions, exercise executive control over University budgets and safeguard all asset of the University.

Final arguments begin in trial of Ed Thomas

The final arguments for the trial of Ed Thomas in the murder of EMU wide receiver Demarius Reed started at 8:30, Monday. Thomas is accused of felony murder or assisting in murder, as well as armed robbery. Nimish Gantra, assistant prosecuting attorney for Washtenaw County began the closing arguments.

EMU football team lands highly touted transfer

After reports surfaced earlier this week, the Eastern Michigan University athletic department officially announced the transfer of Rob Bolden from Louisiana State University late Friday afternoon. He will be eligible for the 2014 season.

Van Ameyde named baseball coach

Eastern Michigan University named Mark Van Ameyde its baseball coach Tuesday. Van Ameyde is switching one green and white jersey for another, as he spent the last six years as the assistant coach for former EMU assistant Jake Boss at Michigan State University.

Volleyball team adds assistant coach

Eastern Michigan University volleyball coach Kim Berrington announced June 10 the addition of Shayna Munson to her coaching staff. Munson is familiar with Coach Berrington, as she was a member of her squad from 2001-02.

Leigh Greden Leaves EMU for Washington D.C.

Leigh Greden, Eastern Michigan University’s vice president of government and community and community relations, will retire from EMU and become Congressman John Dingell’s chief of staff, EMU President Susan Martin said at Tuesday’s Board of Regents meeting.
