Quick baskets launched a major lead at the start of the game as the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated the Central Michigan University Chippewas, 73-60, on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Convocation Center.

With the win the Eagles advance to 12-6 (4-1 Mid-American Conference) and clinch the No. 1 spot in the MAC West.

Four Eagles were able to score in the double digits during the game. Senior Tavelyn James had 23 points, Desyree Thomas had 11 and Natachia Watkins grabbed 7 rebounds as well as gaining 19 points. Paige Redditt scored 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Olivia Fouty seized 12 rebounds to help the Eagles.

Central Michigan’s key player was Jas’mine Bracey who scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jessica Green scored 12 points and Taylor Johnson had 15.

The Eagles will travel to Ohio next to take on Bowling Green State University at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22.
