A community from Eastern Michigan University and surrounding areas came together for a ceremony in which the new 9/11 memorial was unveiled in Pease Park.

The memorial featured the 14-foot, 6,800-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center.

The event, which began at 2:30 p.m., featured speakers such as EMU President Susan Martin, Washtenaw County Sheriff Jerry Clayton, U.S. Rep. John Dingell and EMU Student Government President Jelani McGadney.
