Ypsilanti Police reported an Eastern Michigan University student, who is an Open Carry advocate and had his handgun in a holster, was the victim of an attempted unarmed robbery at approximately 9:15 a.m today, off campus in the 300 block of Pearl Street.

The victim told police he was approached by an unknown suspect, who grabbed onto his gun and attempted to wrestle the weapon away.

A witness came to the victim’s aid and was able to secure the gun and return it to the victim, at which point the suspect fled on foot.

There were no injuries reported.

The suspect was described as an African-American male in his early 20s, of thin build and sporting a beard. He was said to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, red shirt, dark pants and grey and orange tennis shoes.
