Eastern Michigan University continued negotiations with its clerical staff union UAW 1975 on July 30, but the two parties were not able to come to an agreement during the meeting.

UAW 1975 Bargaining and Grievance Chairperson Mike Shumaker said the union has filed for fact finding, but will continue to negotiate with the university and their next meeting is scheduled for August 8.

During the 60-day fact-finding process an arbitrator will make a non-binding recommendation to both parties, after which the university can offer an unchanged or modified contract and the union must accept the terms.

The clerical union was working under a 30-day extension contract set to expire July 31, but opted for another 30-day extension that will run through the end of August.
