The Michigan Senate has rejected several upcoming appointments made by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to public university governing boards including those made to Eastern Michigan University.

The Senate voted 21-17 Wednesday and rejected 14 of Granholm’s appointments made to Eastern Michigan,Central Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Michigan Technological, Northern Michigan and Western Michigan university boards.

Granholm appointed Michael Hawks and Erane Washington-Kendrick to EMU’s Board of Regents; their terms were scheduled to begin Jan.1.

Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop said the appointments should be reserved for the next governor.

Granholm’s term ends Jan. 1 at noon.
