Former swim coach Mike Jones dies

Mike Jones, who coached Eastern Michigan’s men’s swimming program from 1967-88, died today from multiple organ failure.

“Eastern Michigan University is deeply saddened by the loss of Mike Jones,” Athletic Director Derrick Gragg said in a release. “Coach Jones is certainly a legend in the world of intercollegiate swimming and one of the cornerstones of EMU’s athletic success over the past 40 years.”

A funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Nie Funeral Home on Carpenter Road in Ann Arbor. Following the service, the Celebration of Mike Jones’ Life Memorial is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Jones Natatorium.
