Punter Johnson is NFL bound

Eastern Michigan University punter Zach Johnson has signed a free-agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Johnson, a second team Mid-American Conference selection last season, appeared at the Chief’s mini-camp April 30-May 1.

The 6-foot punter finished third in the MAC in 2009 with a 40.4 yard per punt average. He also had 17 punts inside the 20-yard line.

Johnson’s 40.2 average for his career is third best in school history.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
