Ypsilanti Township man charged in fatal shooting

A 20-year-old was charged today in the fatal shooting of a Washtenaw Community College student in the parking lot of the Kmart located on Washtenaw Avenue Sunday afternoon.

Michael Crockett was arraigned today on counts of open murder,assault with intent to rob while armed, carrying a concealed weapon and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Crockett is currently being held at the Washtenaw County Jail without bond.

Crockett and another individual got into a fight with Chris King in the parking lot around 4 p.m. which led to King being shot in the back.

King was rushed to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital before being pronounced dead.

Police have said one man is still wanted for questioning in regards to the shooting.
