The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in a few events at the Toledo Invitational in Toledo, Ohio on Friday, May 9. The Eagles had a strong showing at the event as many of the Green and White recorded personal-bests or came within close range of their record marks in the week before the 2014 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a reported attempted unarmed robbery that took place at approximately 12:25 a.m. at the intersection of Ballard Street and Emmet Street. The victims are two male Eastern Michigan University students. Minor injuries were reported.

On April 24, the Eastern Michigan University Student Senate ratified the results of the 2014 general election of the student body, making Desmond Miller the official student body president for the 2014-2015 school year. Some members of the senate and other students are calling this ratification into question, stating that a quorum was not reached at the April 24 special Senate meeting.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee filed a lawsuit on behalf of six plaintiffs, including write-in presidential candidate Fatma Jaber and Eastern Michigan University students, against EMU and Vice President for Government and Community Relations Leigh Greden Sunday morning in Washtenaw County Court. The lawsuit alleges that the results of the 2014 Student Government Presidential election were racially motived and Jaber, not Desmond Miller, should be named President of EMU Student Government.

At a special Student Senate meeting Thursday night, the results of the 68th general election of the student body were ratified by the Senate – including the Presidential, Vice Presidential and Senatorial elections. Desmond Miller will officially serve as President with Steven Cole as his Vice President.

In 2000, a president was supposed to be chosen by the American electorate as had always happened every four years. Except this time around the question of who was president was left unanswered after November 15th, 2000, and wasn’t resolved until December 13th, 2000. Students at Eastern Michigan University were left in a similar predicament when the results for Student Body President and Vice President were left unanswered after votes had been tallied in late March.

There were no reported injuries. The suspect is described as a male, six feet tall, approximately 200 pounds wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
