Search for new Student Affairs associate VP begins

Eastern Michigan University has geared up to hire on a new associate vice president of Student Affairs for the institution. Three candidates, Calvin Phillips, John Berry and Timothy Wise, have been given the opportunity to present their plans, objectives and goals for EMU if they are elected to the campus community.

UPDATE: Alleged robbery victim recants statement

The female victim of Thursday’s alleged unarmed robbery recanted her statement, according to an email update sent by Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Public Safety early Friday morning. The student originally reported having been struck from behind in the Rynearson Parking Lot on Hewitt Road, causing her to briefly lose consciousness.

STAFF EDITORIAL: Ypsilanti better served by Obama’s visit, not Ann Arbor

The city of Ypsilanti is not spectacular, but it is symbolic of the kind of people and places which would be effected by his proposal to increase the minimum wage. Which is why The Eastern Echo’s editorial board was dispirited to hear President Obama would speak at University of Michigan this Wednesday instead of Eastern Michigan University. Given the stated subject of the president’s remarks it would have meant more to students and faculty here rather than there.

Use time management to stop procrastinating

Most of us have procrastinated at some point or another (and if you have not, I am pretty sure you are a robot). It is easy to get bogged down in work, especially at this point in the semester. The key is to manage the urge to put off tasks and not to allow it to consume your schedule.

Edwards is Board Chair of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Metro Detroit/Ann Arbor Chapter. He was invited by the Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management of EMU.

Alum returns to discuss life as a diplomat

Julie A. Eadeh has lived in more countries than many people have lived in houses – Saudi Arabia, Iraq, China and Qatar to name a few. Her journey through life has roots to Eastern Michigan University, where she received her degree in history. On Monday, she came back to EMU to talk to students about possibly following her career path as a diplomat for the United States of America in the Department of State.

Residence hall prices to rise 4 percent

Eastern Michigan University’s Board of Regents approved a 4 percent increase in the university residence halls’ room and board rates for the 2014-15 academic year at its regular meeting Tuesday. The increase is designed to pay for increased food costs, deferred maintenance expenses and a future plan to upgrade residence halls and dining facilities.

My days as editor-in-chief of The Eastern Echo are officially numbered. News editor Nora Naughton is poised to gradually take over the position in the next few weeks, which is pretty cool considering that anyone who knows her knows the paper will be in good hands.

A look inside EMU's role in the EAA

Eastern Michigan University, along with the school district for the city of Detroit, signed an interlocal agreement with the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan on June 23, 2011. One of the university’s main motivators to sign the agreement was to play a helpful role in the education of Michigan children, according to President Susan Martin.

Willette nabs NCAA Regional Championship bid

The motivation of doing well drove Eastern Michigan University Anna Willette gymnast to succeed in every meet this season. Her hard work paid off as she qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association Regional Championships, the organization announced in its gymnastics championship release Monday, March 24.
