AMP crew creates art events for students

The Amplifying the Arts Do-It-Yourself mask-making event Oct. 23 at Bob’s Lake House on Eastern Michigan University’s campus brought many faces.

AMP is a student organization at EMU that is an “Arts management program building arts management skill sets while creating art events for students in all disciplines,” said Rachel Parke, Master of Arts in the administration program.

There were tables set up with masks, paint and decorations to appease artsy appetites. Snacks and drinks were also provided for students. The hosts of the event were very attentive and helpful in mask-making instruction.

Members of the dance group Over-Dosed on Dance were participating in the mask-making fun to create masks for their upcoming dance event Nov. 7.

On Nov. 8 there will be an event hosted by AMP called Soup and Soul that will be held in the Student Center ballroom at 6 p.m. It is a benefit for Growing Hope, so come out for a night of music, poetry and visual arts.

Donations are welcome and will be going to Growing Hope.

On Nov. 14 there will be another DIY session from 8 -10 p.m. for T-shirt remakes, so bring a T-shirt to the Student Center room 301 and prepare to revamp an old T-shirt.

On Nov. 17 there will be a showcase of art at the River Gallery in Chelsea, Mich., and there will be buses to the event if you want go and support local artists as well as your fellow student artists.

Last but not least, there is a DIY event Dec. 4 that caters to your gift-wrapping needs at the Student Center in room 310A from 7 -10 p.m.
