Electronic handbooks

When most freshmen go to college, they are handed a handbook in paper. That did not happen for students at the start of this year. Why? The handbook is now paperless. To find it, you can go to emich.edu/studenthandbook. There, you can find interactive information on Policies, Campus Resources, the Academic Calendar and a Glossary of Terms.

Legal Resource Center anniversary

The Washtenaw County/Eastern Michigan University Legal Resource Center held its 10-year anniversary celebrations at the Corner Brewery on Thursday. According to a press release from EMU's University Communications, the event included a speech from Kim Schatzel.

The EMU Legal Resource Center is an office in the Washtenaw County Court House. It is half a legal self-help center and half a training ground for EMU students in the paralegal program.

As said on michiganlegalhelp.org, EMU students help people “fill out the appropriate forms for such civil matters as divorce, child custody, personal protection orders, small claims, landlord tenant disputes, probate, paternity or adult guardianship.”

According to the press release, the center has grown from helping 50 people when it was founded in 2004, to 300 a month now. The money generated from the $55 tickets and $250 sponsorships went to the EMU Alice Callum Paralegal Studies Program Scholarship, The Legal Resource Center and the Washtenaw County Bar Association and Justice Fund.
