At 1:55 p.m. today the University of Michigan tweeted out as a warning to anyone in the area that there was an active shooter at Mason Hall.

“Run, hide, fight.” The tweet said. The University’s twitter account had soon announced at 2:34 p.m. that there was no confirmation on an active shooter at Mason Hall but were still advising people to stay away.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department soon came out to comment saying that people were popping balloons near a vigil that was being held for the victims of the New Zealand Mosque shootings which killed 50 people and injured dozens of others that happened yesterday.

Police are still doing a full investigation into this matter with the Universities division of public safety and security’s emergency alerts instructing people to stay clear of Angell and Mason Halls.

With it being St. Patrick’s Day weekend and a lot of people being in the downtown area the police advise people to stay safe and avoid the area as there is still an ongoing investigation.

Keep up with the U of M twitter and DPSS alerts for updates in the situation.
