Review: A Day To Remember redeems themselves with new song ‘Miracle’

A Day To Remember (ADTR) has been one of the most well-known “emo” bands throughout the century so far. From hits like “The Downfall Of Us All” and “If It Means A Lot To You” to a more recent banger like “Mindreader,” it has been impossible to ignore this rock band.

Most fans consider their most recent studio album “You’re Welcome” a bust, and I would agree. However, all signs point to this 2022 single overshadowing the entirety of that record.

Lyrical Overview

Rating - 6/10

The words behind this song are very empowering. “Miracle” seems to be about how the person singing has been through a lot of stuff in their life, so anything else life might throw at them will pale in comparison. In the song, they mention how people are thinking the speaker is asking for the help of some higher power to get through it when in all reality they know that is the last thing they need.

Even though the lyrics are very empowering, they are not as complex compared to their other songs. For example, their 2009 release “Have Faith In Me” had lyrics as follows:

“With the weight of the world on my shoulders, they just wanna see me fall.”

Those lyrics from thirteen years ago carry more weight to them (pun intended) than the ones we are seeing from ADTR today. This is in no way discrediting the power that these words can have on people including myself, but we know that they can do a little better than this.

Musical Overview

Rating - 9/10

The strongest contender in this song is musicality. “Miracle” brings in some of the heavier stuff that ADTR was originally known for. Over the years, their sound has still remained in the rock genre but in a different way. A band softening up their sound is not always a bad thing, but in the case of ADTR, it has caused them to lose a few fans.

Well, those fans would be happy to know that ADTR has added a breakdown in the middle of the song similar to that of bands such as I Prevail and Crown The Empire. Not only that, but the guitars are heavier on the ears, which will make any metalcore fan swoon. Vocally, it is the same: good range. The real winner in this track, however, is the percussive work.

The drums make the song. They are the driving force that is giving back ADTR’s original sound that we all know and love. If you are to listen to this song for any reason, make sure to listen to the beat.

Overall

This song is going to make a lot of ADTR’s original fanbase very happy. Ever since the disappointment of “You’re Welcome” in 2021, they needed to redeem themselves in the rock scene. It is safe to say that they have caught our attention.

In conclusion, this song is quite literally a miracle.

Overall Rating - 7.5/10
