Advice: How to make break time academically useful

Create a great resume and cover letter during break.

There is nothing quite like a break for a student, especially one who lives far from their family and is eager to see them. Smart students don't work harder; they work smarter. It is important to invest in break time to get the necessary tasks accomplished so you can fully commit to classes when the semester begins.

In order to gain opportunities as a student, you must have an effective resume and cover letter. Taking some time during the break can be beneficial for creating a resume and cover letter. Putting together a resume in a hurry will not get you the job you want!

A great resume:

  • Grabs the attention of employers and recruiters
  • Sells your strongest skills and accomplishments
  • Shows how you’re a match for a position or project
  • Gets you a job interview
  • A great Cover letter:

  • Demonstrates that you are a valuable asset to the company
  • Describes how your skills and academic background will benefit you in this role
  • Gives your future employer a nice first impression
  • Another beneficial activity to engage in during break time is volunteering. Despite the fact that volunteering has its benefits for everyone, college students particularly benefit from community service. Volunteering can boost your resume and improve job prospects, as well as give you the chance to make more connections. Through community service, students gain real-world experience and practice important habits like leadership, problem-solving, and time management. All of that can be a great booster to your resume if you know just how to write it!

Lastly, taking courses to improve certain skills or hobbies is a great way to grow. Maintaining class schedules, assignments, and tests while also practicing your hobbies and expanding your skills can be challenging during the semester. Consequently, break time is a perfect time to attend courses that will help you improve your skills.

It is possible to use your break time academically in many ways. Those are just a few examples that I personally believe are essential. Not saying that you should spend all your time involved in academic improvement and forget to live. They say: “ work to live, don’t live to work.”
