Review: "Lisa Frankenstein" is a quirky, cute flick

"Lisa Frankenstein" is a quirky, cute film that has many twists and turns that keep your head swiveling.

Synopsis

A misunderstood teenager must find her way through life after her mother's shocking death. When uncanny circumstances bring her face to face with a reanimated corspe from a local cemetery, together they embark on a journey of lust and love.

Starring Kathryn Newton as Lisa Swallows, Liza Soberano as Taffy, and Cole Sprouse.

Highs

Kathryn Newton is phenomenal as Lisa. Her typical 80's tween is spot on with dashes of wit and humor that round out the character. Newton sells this unstable lovesick girl in not only lines, but also in mannerisms and delivery, making this film soar simply with her role.

The idea and execution of this film plays out beautifully. In the beginning credits, we get the story of one of the main characters in a 2D paper-type animation. This made the film stand out to me immediately. Our characters' dynamics are seen later in this film in the same style, and the uniqueness of these aspects makes the film shine. Not only is the plot quirky and humorous, but its overall execution by everyone in the filmmaking process makes the film great.

Lows

The ending felt lackluster compared to the rest of the film. The ending felt almost like a cop-out to wrap up the film, and it didn't give me the feeling that the rest of the film did.

Verdict

This is a fun, quirky and humorous film that makes a dent in an oversaturated market.

I give "Lisa Frankenstein" an 8 out of 10 rating.
