Looking for a summer job? There are some opportunities in the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor area that students can work at once the semester comes to an end.
The National Association of Colleges and Employers has shared many resources with students and new college graduates to help them obtain jobs. The association also shared some things employers are looking for when reviewing a college student's resume.
On the association's Job Outlook 2025 survey, 90% of employers said they are seeking students who have the ability to solve problems; and 80% said they seek students who have teamwork skills. So, students who find they have some free time during the upcoming summer semester should consider putting those problem-solving and teamwork skills to work in the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor area.
This list includes some of the jobs that are open for applications in the area as of April. All are close to EMU's campus. All are paid positions that run through the summer.
KE Camps
KE Camps is a day camp program that takes place at Travis Pointe Day Camp from June 16 to Aug. 8. The program is hiring for both a camp counselor and a summer program assistant for 2025.
The qualifications for the counselor position are to help children grow character, guard the well-being of campers and have prior experience working with children. Counselors serves as active participants in daily activities and have friendly interactions with campers.
In the program assistant roles has similar functions, but also supports the camp director in executing program activities and filling out paperwork. The camp counselor position pays $13.50 to $15.50 an hour and the camp director pays $800 to $900 a week.

BIG – Best in Games Cashier
BIG is an entertainment facility on Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti that features a restaurant, bumper cars, laser tag and more than 150 arcade games.
The business is seeking a cashier who has basic math skills for handling cash, strong communication skills, and exceptional customer service skills. The cashier's responsibility includes providing customers with positive experiences and assisting with their inquiries. This position pays up to $15 an hour. Cashiers should expect to work 15 to 35 hours a week. Employees also receive a discount.

Summer Program Facilitator
The Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission is hiring a summer program facilitator to work in environments like classrooms and daycare.
They are seeking individuals who have experience in babysitting and have the ability to collaborate with staff and families.
In this position, workers are responsible for developing engaging activities for children between the ages of 5 and 11 as well as with a team of facilitators to engage children by using movement and creativity.
The job is expected to last 32 weeks. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Training starts June 9 and ends June 13. This position pays $16 an hour.
