Brazilian Zouk for Beginners – Wednesdays, June 18-23, 2025

Note to all dance lovers on campus: the Brazilian Zouk is in town.

Based on Lambada, the partner dance in the Zouk style began in Brazil in the 1990s, and its dancing moves spread around the world.

Instructors Charlie and Joao are bringing the dance to Ypsilanti's Rhizome Roots Studio, located at 108 Pearl Street. They invite all who are interested to learn the Zouk music and meet new people during one-hour classes. The team is hosting classes this summer on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

All levels are welcome; participants may be beginners who want to learn or experienced dancers who want to practice. Those interested can come as couples or individuals. The class will also include cultural familiarization with the Zouk dance and footwork.

Admission ranges from $16 to $55 per participant, with options to purchase a series of classes. Visit the team's Facebook page to learn more or sign up for a series of classes through this Google sign-up form.

Fun fact: the word “Zouk” in French means music or party, so let the Zouk begin!
