Looking for an interesting event to attend this week? Look no further – from concerts and country fair events to karaoke nights and tailgates, there is something for everyone this week on and around Eastern Michigan University's campus.

Off-campus

Riverside's Ypsi Fine Arts Club — Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025

The Ypsi Fine Arts Club at the Riverside Arts Center invites art lovers, artists and all to celebrate original work during regular gatherings.

Event organizers said the club's vision was inspired by the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club. The Ypsi Fine Arts Club events, held twice a month, emphasize local artists and local art. Artists are welcome to bring their work and shed some light on the creation process. 

Artists can bring up to two pieces of art to the presentation. Visitors do not have to present. 

The gatherings occur at Riverside’s Ypsi Fine Arts Club at 76 North Huron St. in Ypsilanti from 5 to 8 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

Joe Reilly & The Community Gardeners — Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025

“Music makes the people come together,” lyrics from a Madonna song, represent Joe Reilly's agenda to bring the community together through the power of music. 

Reilly and The Community Gardeners, his band, will perform pieces from Reilly’s new album “Learn to Love Again" at the Ypsilanti Freighthouse on Sept. 18 starting at 7:30 p.m. The performance is part of the University Musical Society's shows at the Freighthouse in September.

Admission is required with a “pay as you wish” method and a minimum of $5 per ticket. To purchase tickets, go to the UMS website.

Noah Jackson and Full Circle — Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 20-21, 2025

Grammy-nominated Noah Jackson comes to town during EMU's homecoming weekend.

Music lovers who want to spend an evening with the sound of jazz are invited to attend Noah Jackson and Full Circle's performances, which are also part of the University Musical Society's shows at the Freighthouse.

The educated bassist, cellist, composer and curator will perform with his band, the Full Circle.

Two jazz music events will take place at the Ypsilanti Freighthouse, the first at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, and the second at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Admission is required with a “pay as you wish” method, with a minimum $5 charge needed per ticket. Tickets are available for purchase on the UMS website.

Ypsi Fall River Day — Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025

The city of Ypsilanti Parks & Arts Commission and the Huron River Watershed Council scheduled this year's Ypsi Fall River Day from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21.

Individuals and families are invited to Frog Island Park for an afternoon of river-themed activities. Participants can join in games, make crafts, hike, kayak and tour a live river critters exhibit. Other exhibitors will also be present to share information about the river.

Organizations interested in exhibiting, vending or tabling at the event can complete the form on the city's website. Individuals interested in volunteering at Fall River Day can call the Huron River Watershed Council at 734-769-5123.

Attending the event is free, but those interested in kayaking must register. Kayaks and supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Frog Island Park is at 699 Rice St. in Ypsilanti.

Country Fair Events at the Orchard — Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21, 2025

Wiard's Orchards launched its fall country fair events in September, and the special attractions continue for Teacher Appreciation Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21, 2025.

From pedal tractor races to a paintball shooting gallery and the inflatable Moo Moo Moonwalk, there are a number of activities for children of all ages. 

The country fair weekends also include U-Pick options, a country store, the learning barn, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and of course, the cider mill.

Weekend daily admission is $26 per person. For those who wish to visit during the weekday, the ticket price is $18. Visitors can also purchase a country fair season pass for $46. Babies under 23 months are admitted for free.

On-campus events

Women & Gender Studies Welcome Reception — Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025

New and current Eastern Michigan University students are invited to an evening with the faculty of the Women & Gender Studies department at the Lake House.

Participants will learn about the department and about future events. Cider, donuts and trivia will be provided. Attendance is free and LBC-approved

The event is from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Homecoming Trap Karaoke Night — Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025

Mic lovers and all are invited to a night of rap and trap karaoke at the Student Center.

Hosted by the Kings of Color, the event is scheduled for 8 to 10 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Students can bring friends and choose some songs to sing. 

Attendance is free.

Homecoming Football Game and Tailgate Event — Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025

Students, family and friends are invited to the Alumni & Friends Homecoming Tailgate before the Eagles take on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Rajin' Cajuns on the gridiron.

The tailgate will last for approximately three hours and begins at 12:30 p.m. in the front lawn at Rynearson Stadium.

Ticket prices vary and are available online. Walk-up purchases may be limited to cards only.

Anyone interested in attending the game can purchase separate tickets through the EMU website. Ticket prices range from $11 to $33.

Natalie Kyle

Natalie Kyle uses she/her pronouns, and has worked for The Eastern Echo since May 2025. She started as social media manager, then moved to Editor-in-Chief in October 2025. Kyle is a senior majoring in communication technology.

Her job entails overseeing all operations and setting the general direction of The Echo’s news coverage. Natalie’s favorite part is being there to support and uplift the team.
