As the month of November begins with the weather getting colder and Thanksgiving just around the corner, students at Eastern Michigan University are preparing to register for their Winter 2026 semester classes.
The date and time at which students can register for classes depends on their number of completed credit hours, not including their Fall 2025 semester hours. To check their total earned hours, students can go to their my.emich account and check their Academic Transcript under the Student Academic Services tab.
Registration dates
- Wednesday, Nov. 5 - Registration opens for all Honors College students, doctoral fellows and graduate assistants.
- Thursday, Nov. 6 - Registration opens for graduate, post-bachelor, teacher certification, second bachelor and undergraduate post-bachelor non-degree students.
- Friday, Nov. 7 - Registration opens for seniors with 85 or more credit hours.
- Monday, Nov. 10 - Registration opens for juniors with 56-84 credit hours.
- Tuesday, Nov. 11 - Registration opens for sophomores with 25-55 credit hours.
- Wednesday, Nov. 12 - Registration opens for freshmen with 12-24 credit hours.
- Thursday, Nov. 13 - Registration opens for freshmen with 0-11 credit hours.
For freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors in the Honors College, registration opened on Nov. 5, 2025. All Honors College students can register for classes on Nov. 5 regardless of how many credit hours they have.
There are different times during each day that that registration will open for students, which also depends on the number of hours they have completed.
This applies to all registration days. Depending on the number of credits students have, they may be able to register earlier or later on whichever day applies to them.
To learn more about exact times and credit hours needed to register, students can visit the Winter 2026 Schedule page on EMU's website.
Open registration and add/drop begins on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. for students who may need to add or drop a course for which they previously registered.
On the same day, Thursday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., students can attend Registration Blitz in the Rec/IM Gymnasium on the third floor. At this event, students can meet with advisors to ask questions about registration, register for classes on site in the Registration Station and learn more information about class registration.
It is important for students to register as soon as they can in order to get into the classes they want. The longer students wait, the less likely they may be able to register for a course they want to take. Students may find it helpful to write down the date and time they can register for their classes so they don’t miss out.
Title IX registration hold
Students will not be able to register for Winter 2026 courses until they have completed EMU's mandatory Title IX training.
The training focuses on sexual assault and gender-based discrimination prevention and awareness, and it is required every academic year for students at EMU. The mandatory training was available for students to complete during the Fall 2025 semester and was due Nov. 1.
If a student has not completed the Title IX training by the time registration opens, they will not be able to register for their classes. If a student completes the Title IX training after the deadline, it can take up to 24-48 business hours until the student can register for classes.
To learn more about Title IX, students can visit the Title IX Training page.
Choosing courses
Christina Shell, the registrar at Eastern Michigan University, provided further information about registration in an email.
“Students should meet with an advisor prior to registering each semester,” Shell said in the email.
Shell encouraged students to get confirmation on what courses they need for their academic program and remain aware of the three types of delivery for courses — online, hybrid and on-campus.
Shell said that registration is scheduled to make the most accurate section offerings available from the academic departments.
“Registration in March for summer and fall semesters, and in November for winter semesters allows departments to ensure the offerings are aligned with available instructional staff and responsive to student needs,” Shell said in an email.
The Office of Records and Registration has a page on its website where students can find information about what they need prior to registration, how to find the classes they need and more tips.
Students can contact the Office of Records and Registration if they have any questions or concerns about registration by visiting Service EMU in Room 268 in the Student Center, emailing them at registrar@emich.edu or calling them at 734-487-4111.
