Eagles soar to new heights at Michigan Invitational with record marks and event wins

The Eastern Michigan University track and field teams delivered a standout performance at the Michigan Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, held at the University of Michigan Indoor Track Building in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Competing in a high-stakes environment hosted by U-M, the Eagles' programs combined for four program top 10 marks and a total of 11 personal bests. The day was characterized by dominance in field events, which accounted for all four of the historic marks, alongside three individual event wins across the men’s and women’s rosters.

The women’s team was particularly successful, securing two event victories and etching three new entries into the EMU record books. Mariah Taylor was a primary catalyst for this success, winning the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 12.65 meters. This performance was not just a victory for the meet but a significant move in the program’s history, as she climbed to No. 4 all-time at Eastern Michigan. Taylor also showed her versatility by competing in the 60m hurdles, finishing 10th in the prelims with a time of 9.23 seconds.

Joining Taylor in the winner’s circle was Demetria Henderson, who captured first place in the 800m with a decisive time of 2:14.91. The women’s throwers also left their mark on the record books. Faith Moore continued her upward trajectory in the weight throw, tossing a personal-best 18.40 meters to secure third place in the event and move into the No. 4 spot in program history. In the shot put, Savannah Breitwiser delivered a mark of 13.51m, which earned her a tie for No. 8 all-time at EMU, matching a record previously set by Claire Allen in 2024.

Other notable women’s performances included Micah Martin, who took second place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.70 meters, and Mariia Yelanska, who secured a second-place finish in the triple jump behind Taylor with a mark of 12.15m. On the track, Jordynn Young and Ajah Arscott both set personal bests in the 60m finals, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Shamoya Clemetson added a podium finish by taking third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.66.

On the men’s side, Andrew Azunque highlighted the field events by earning his second collegiate win in the high jump. Azunque cleared a personal-best height of 2.00 meters, leading an EMU 1-2 finish as teammate Tanner Schick followed in second place with a 1.95m (6-04.75) clearance. The men’s throwers were led by Jake McEachern, who took second in the weight throw. McEachern improved his own No. 9 all-time program mark with a personal-best toss of 19.77m, surpassing his previous best of 19.60m set in 2024. DeMarrio Roetherford also performed well in the weight throw, finishing fourth with an EMU personal best of 19.05m.

The men’s track events saw several Eagles near the top of the leaderboard. In the 60 meter hurdles, Kayenn Mabin secured a second-place finish with a time of 7.93 in the finals, followed closely by Michael Hawkins in third with a time of 8.06. Jamyle Anderson proved to be a force in the sprints, taking second place in the 200m, coming in at 21.57 and finishing in fourth place in the 60m finals. In the long jump, Gabe Oliveira earned a silver medal with a leap of 7.12m

Looking ahead, the Eagles will look to build on this momentum as they split their squads for a two-meet weekend Friday, Feb. 13, 2026. Part of the team will travel to Allendale, Michigan, for the Grand Valley State University Big Meet, while others will head to Indianapolis, Indiana, for the Heartland Invitational at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. These upcoming competitions will provide further opportunities for the athletes to sharpen their marks as they move deeper into the indoor season.
