Eastern Michigan Gymnastics records 194.125 in a dual meet loss to Ball State

The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team competed in a dual meet against Ball State University on Sunday, Feb. 15, at Worthen Arena in Muncie, Indiana. Ball State won the competition with a team score of 195.025, while Eastern Michigan recorded a total of 194.125. During the meet, Eastern Michigan recorded its highest team scores of the season on vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.

Vault performance

On vault, Eastern Michigan recorded a team score of 48.950, which surpassed its previous season-best mark by .250. Kendall Landry won the vault event title with a career-best score of 9.850. Genae Daniel tied for second place in the event, recording a score of 9.825 in her first vault appearance of the season. Abby Brushwood and Savanna Dunwoody both recorded scores of 9.775 to tie for fifth place. Dunwoody's score tied her career high. Macy Nihart made her collegiate vault debut and recorded a score of 9.725. Gwendelyn Cantu also recorded a 9.725, with both gymnasts tying for ninth place. Georgie Slack performed in an exhibition and received a 9.675. Ball State’s highest vault score was a 9.825 from K. Mercer.

Uneven bars performance

Eastern Michigan began the meet on the uneven bars, finishing with a team total of 48.500. Kyrie Lowe led the team with a 9.825, tying for third place overall. Analiah Solorio recorded a 9.750 to tie for seventh place. Jacquelyn Patterson scored 9.700 to finish ninth, which tied her career high. Keeley Kohler finished 10th with a score of 9.650, followed by Genae Daniel in 11th with a 9.575. Sanai Evans recorded a season-best 9.350 for 12th place. In exhibition, Georgie Slack produced a score of 9.525. Ball State won the event as a team with a 49.250, led by Ashley Szymanski, who recorded a 9.950.

Balance beam performance

On the balance beam, Eastern Michigan recorded a team total of 47.750. Jacquelyn Patterson led the Eagles with a score of 9.825, finishing third in the event. Kyrie Lowe tied for fourth place with a 9.750, matching her season high. Keeley Kohler recorded a 9.600 to place sixth. Analiah Solorio tied for seventh place with a 9.325. Katin Childress finished ninth with a 9.250, and Macy Nihart finished 11th with a 9.050. Kendall Landry performed in an exhibition on beam and recorded a score of 9.600. Ball State recorded a team score of 48.075 on the event. Delaney McMahon and Ashley Szymanski of Ball State tied for first place on beam, both recording scores of 9.900.

Floor performance

Eastern Michigan concluded the meet on floor exercise, recording a season-best team total of 48.925. Abby Brushwood tied for the event title with a score of 9.875, matching her season high. Macy Nihart and Priya Karle tied for fourth place with scores of 9.775. For Nihart, the score was a career high. Kyrie Lowe and Kendall Landry both recorded scores of 9.750 to tie for sixth place, which was a career high for Landry. Savanna Dunwoody competed in an exhibition on floor and recorded a 9.475. Ball State finished the floor rotation with a team score of 48.800. Zoe Middleton and Ava Molina led Ball State on the event with scores of 9.800.

Summary of results

In the all-around competition, Middleton of Ball State was the sole competitor, finishing with a total score of 38.600. Eastern Michigan outperformed Ball State on two of the four events, winning vault and floor exercise. Ball State won uneven bars and beam. 

Eastern Michigan travels next to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a non-conference meet against Temple University. The meeting is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m.
