Riverside Arts Center's Ypsi Fine Arts Club hosts Black Artist Exhibition

Riverside Arts Center's Ypsi Fine Arts Club is hosting its fourth annual "Black Artist Exhibition" in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Ronnie Peterson and Gloria Peterson.

The exhibition is in collaboration with the African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County, who work to preserve and showcase cultural and historical materials surrounding the life and work of African American Washtenaw County residents. Founded in 1993, the museum is free of charge to visitors.

The Black Artist Exhibition is also in collaboration with the Palm Leaf Club. Founded in 1904 by African American women, the non-profit started in the Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, before growing out of the space.

This years' Black Artist Exhibition theme is Unity, however, there is no requirement for each piece to mirror the theme.

All of the work in the exhibit is original. Pieces vary from painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, fiber, sculpture, installation and mixed media.

The Black Artist Exhibition opened its doors to attendees Jan. 16, 2026. The exhibition will be open to visitors until Feb. 28, 2026. The gallery itself is located at the Riverside Arts Center in the North Gallery, found at 76 N. Huron St., Ypsilanti.

After the Black Artist Exhibition, the Riverside Arts Center will be hosting its third annual YFAC exhibition in March. The deadline for artists to apply is Feb. 18, 2026. To be eligible for submission, artists must already be registered as members of the YFAC as well as having attended one meeting.

Membership is free and permanent after members have attended their first meeting.

To submit to the YFAC exhibition, and to see more information on eligibility, visit the application page.

Founded in May of 2023, the YFAC meets every first and third Wednesday of each month. All work must be original to be submitted, however, medium may vary.
