Election season is upon us in Ypsilanti. On Aug. 4, residents will have the opportunity to cast their ballots in local, district and statewide elections. Whether voting absentee, in-person or just finding out about the elections today, here is what voters need to know.
When is the primary election?
Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, is when polls open for Michigan’s primary election. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. is entitled to vote. Early voting is available until Aug. 2, and participating communities can find more information about it here.
What is on the ballot?
- Michigan Governor
- U.S. Senate
- U.S. House of Representatives
- Michigan House and Senate
- Washtenaw County Local Offices
- Local city or township offices and proposals

Where can I vote?
Voters can find their assigned polling locations through the Michigan Voter Information system. The site also provides precinct information, absentee ballot status and early voting locations.
How do I know I’m registered to vote?
Voters can view their registration status on the Michigan Secretary of State website. The deadline to register online or by mail has passed, but eligible voters may still register in person at their local clerk's office through Election Day.
What should I bring?
Michigan voters are encouraged to bring a photo ID. Those without identification may still vote after signing an affidavit verifying their identity.
