2026 Queer Talks

On Jan. 30, 2026, the Honors College hosted the 2026 Queer Talks. The event began with a presentation on Wellness within the LGBTQ community from keynote speaker Dr. Caroline R. Callaway, who was then followed by additional presentations, including discussions from Jade Traska, Owen Cardenas, and Sophie Lowe who each highlighted different aspects of the LGBTQ community. Jade Traska delivered a speech on art as a form of activism, noting the AIDS Memorial Quilt as a significant historical example. Owen Cardenas followed this presentation with a Zine and accompanying discussion on cultural influences on gender identity. Sophie Lowe then gave a presentation on the underrepresentation of LGBTQ community members in STEM. Queer Talks concluded with a drag show, hosted by local drag queen Lyrica and featured additional performances from Xiao Ghossty, Fruit Fly, Dullahan, Aurelia Aura, Sirgin, and Kimani Roldan.
