Eastern Michigan University celebrates MLK day in 2026

On January 19, 2026, Eastern Michigan University students and staff gathered outside of Boone Hall to honor and discuss the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr for MLK day. The ceremony began with speakers reflecting on the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. before the ceremonial wreath was placed on the statue. The ceremony concluded with a fraternity chant sung by the members of Eastern Michigan University's chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. Following this later in the day, former White House Press Secretary, current Spokesperson and author Karine Jean-Pierre hosted a book signing event at Eastern Michigan University's Student Center. There, she signed copies of her memoir "Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines." . (Gallery by Maddy Makin)
