Eastern Michigan University has suspended its relationship with GradesFirst, the company responsible for the mistaken dismissal emails sent to some students earlier this month. The university will also be reassessing their contract with the company as well as reviewing other third-party agreements to see which, if any, services will be retained.

LANSING- On April 2, a sample collected as part of routine retail animal feed surveillance by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Pesticide and Plant Pest Management division found Salmonella Infantis in a sample collected from an intact package of Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice Formula for Adult Dogs. The manufacturer voluntarily recalled this product on April 6. The recall has expanded and now includes 14 pet food brands manufactured from Dec. 9, 2011 – April 7, 2012.

YPSILANTI – Four skunks have tested positive for rabies so far in 2012. All of the identified skunks have been within the City of Ann Arbor. There are no known human cases of rabies. The individuals and pets that had contact with the ill skunks have received, or are receiving the rabies vaccination or booster. Washtenaw County Public

As an incentive for Eastern Michigan University employees to move to Ypsilanti, a new program called Live Ypsi will offer employees between $5,000 and $10,000 in forgivable loans toward the purchase of a home in the city. The money can be used for any expenses, including down payments, mortgages and renovations. Also, for every year the homeowner is still employed by EMU, 20 percent of the loan will be forgiven, so in five years the full amount of the loan will be wiped away.

Alpha Eta Rho, Eastern Michigan University’s aviation fraternity, held their annual Pancake Breakfast and Fly-in on Saturday at Willow Run Airport. Fraternity members, flight students, family, friends and alumni, gathered at the Eagle Flight Center for the event to raise funds and promote the EMU Aviation program.

Many Eastern Michigan University students were alarmed on Friday evening after reading an email informing them of their dismissal from the university. School officials are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the issue, currently believed to be an operational error in the notification system.

Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh spoke Tuesday at Eastern Michigan University to a small group of students. The lecture was hosted by EMU’s Public Relations Student Society of America. Pugh told stories of what he learned both as a former journalist and from his current public relations experiences, and gave practical advice that went beyond the world of public relations.
