The men’s restroom at The Cavern Club in Ann Arbor is draped in all things feminine, with an assortment of wigs, corsets and costumes scattered about. The sound of Diana Ross’ voice faintly sings from a tiny boom box as Paul Bowling, 22, stares curiously at his handsome reflection in the mirror, before plucking a brush from the overwhelming heap of makeup on the counter.

I have been largely vegetarian for over a decade, and sometimes it’s easy. My parents have always been fans of serving up fresh fruits and vegetables, so they sometimes voluntarily make vegetarian meals. My dad’s specialty is zucchini-mozzarella pie, and my mother is partial to minestrone soup. I’m lacto-ovo vegetarian, which means I eat milk products and eggs as well as plant-derived foods.

Halloween is still more than three weeks away, but when it comes to making costumes, you can never start planning too early. Sewing comes to its peak popularity in the month of October, with everyone wanting the coolest, most unique costume for an affordable price. Since Oct. 30 is too late to start thinking about sewing a costume, now is the perfect time to start.

For freshmen, it is often a new phenomenon, and for everyone else, it’s all about not spending too much money. These days, the textbook business can get away with some high prices because they know students will buy the textbooks they need regardless. Despite this, there are still some easy ways to find lower cost books.

For years, African-American women have strayed from their natural “roots” for relaxers (chemical straighteners) to have that manageable, European look that has been revered. In another instance this revered look has also sparked judgment towards other women who haven’t followed the perm movement. The overwhelming criticism that 2012 Olympics gymnast Gabby Douglas experienced made those outside the African-American community raised their eyebrows to such an intense vanity.
