The purpose of this column is to shine a light on Eastern Michigan University Best Buddies’ purpose to further promote inclusion and understanding for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This platform will allow them to express themselves freely, creatively and most importantly, show EMU students their perspective of the world around them.

It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed up until 4 a.m. to finish a book, but Rainbow Rowell’s latest release, “Fangirl,” kept me up past my bedtime. “Fangirl” is unexpectedly complex. It examines the aches and joys of life in a situation many college students can identify with.

In spirit of the holiday, members of the Eastern Michigan University Student Government and the community joined forces to make the city of Ypsilanti magical and a little brighter with hanging holiday decorations on Monday, Dec. 2. The Student Government members including Student Body Vice President Nino Monea and Director of Communication Adam Reid united with the Downtown Association of Ypsilanti for the first time to increase collaboration on positive events for the city.
Throughout the evening, other students from the EMU community were also present to help assist in decorating throughout Michigan Avenue in downtown Ypsilanti.

Because it’s getting wet, gray and cold, I am craving food that is both spicy and comforting. Stuffed peppers can be both of those things. it’s a combination of rice, vegetables, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. I love stuffed peppers because that is almost a list of my favorite things to include in a meal.

Expensive textbooks are a college student’s worst enemy, but if you’re a smart textbook shopper, you will stretch your dollar until it pops. With the winter 2014 semester approaching, it’s a must for college students to spend the least amount of money on textbooks.

Winter is upon us. Winter gets a bad reputation for being cold and in Michigan it means driving on terrible roads. There are, however, upsides to the season that can be easy to enjoy.
The beginning of the winter season brings with it snow, Christmas music and decorations, and new seasonal flavors. The flavors of winter can be found in everything from coffee and strong drinks to candles.

Big Sean, one of the most popular artists in hip-hop since his debut album in 2011 “Finally Famous,” returned to his home state to perform at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center on November 20th, bringing his North American tour to a close. On Dec. 2nd, he will start the leg of his European tour until Dec. 18th.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and unlike Christmas, I don’t have to worry about finding the perfect present for anyone. Without the pressure of romance, or the lack thereof, it’s much less stressful than Valentine’s Day. For Thanksgiving, all I have to do is bake a lot of desserts: apple pie, pumpkin pie, cheesecake and my favorite, gingersnaps.
