On June 12 49 people were killed, and at least
53 more were recorded injured in one of America’s deadliest mass shootings. The
shooting took place in a LGBTQ nightclub called Pulse early Sunday morning
leaving the world to mourn. But before the gloom could set in the world stood
to support the community having currently raised over 3.5 million dollars from
various organizations, and individuals. Vigils have been put together around
the world to show love and support, and Daniel Freeman continued that support
in the city of Ypsilanti, Michigan.

The Youth Action Committee hosted its 4th Annual Bake Sale on Saturday, May 14 at the Ann Arbor Skate Park. Proceeds of this bake sale go towards costs of hosting visiting professional skateboarders. In the future, a skate clinic for children will be held.

The Tony Awards air June 12. The nominations are dominated by one single show: Hamilton. There are thirteen categories for the nominations, and in trail-blazing fashion Lin-Manuel’s hip-hop-infused masterpiece is nominated for a record breaking 16 awards.

Beyoncé is on her “Formation” World Tour. She recently
performed in her hometown of Houston where she was welcomed by a boycott
less than a mile away from her performance. The protest was formed by the
Coalition of Police and Sheriffs.

Weekly Shōnen Jump has been responsible for publishing some of the most popular manga and anime series in history. Shōnen Jump series recently launched its first anime episode. My Hero Academia was created by Kōhei Horikoshi and had its first manga chapter serialized in the magazine in July of 2014. After two fledgling series, this is the first major success for the mangaka (manga creator).

Nature, literature and history are what visitors to Ypsilanti’s District Library can expect when they enter into the story and art of landscape painter, Thomas Cole. In the library’s newest exhibit, Wild Lands: The Birth of American Landscape Painting, is currently on display until May 25.

Drew Saunders, journalism major at Eastern Michigan University, has written and published his very own novel, Hasan. Hasan is a fictional story of a 15-year-old boy braving the difficulties of the Middle East’s Civil War by himself and whilst caring for his younger siblings. The story illustrates Hasan’s journey of trying to leave the war-corrupted country in his horizons.
