Roundabouts are annoying and I don’t like them. Unfortunately, Washtenaw County is going to call home to more of them, according to an article from Annarbor.com. The article mentions “a new roundabout at Geddes and Ridge roads in Superior Township would mark the 11th project of this type in the county. The 10th is planned for State and Ellsworth roads in Pittsfield Township, and both are part of 2013 road improvements for nearby construction projects.”

Wednesday night, March 6th, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing presented his State of the City address. In a city that could best be described as a cross between the post-apocalyptic city of Shady Sands and the remains of a post race-war apocalyptic Jericho-the comic, the Mayor’s address was looked to as a spot of hope as Detroit faces bankruptcy.

New federal regulations regarding student financial aid are not being kind to Eastern Michigan University. In a Jan. 23 article, The Eastern Echo mentioned, “students who were full-time during fall and winter semesters will no longer be eligible for Pell Grants during the upcoming summer semester.” Where students could once use two years worth of aid per year to speed along graduation, this option is no longer available.

Ypsilanti’s City Council is trying to find ways to solve the city’s budget crisis, according to an annarbor.com article: “The Ypsilanti City Council instructed city staff to begin investigating a wide range of solutions to its projected $10.69 million budget shortfall. During a ‘free form’ discussion at a special goal-setting meeting on Tuesday night, council members each offered ideas and thoughts on measures to close the gap.”

Eastern Michigan University has some budget problems. Namely, it’s short by about $4.6 million, according to an annarbor.com article. The article explains, “EMU Chief Financial Officer John Lumm told the EMU Board of Regents on Tuesday that the shortfall, which was reported at $1.7 million at last month’s regents’ meeting, had ballooned to $4.6 million by Sept. 15.”
