The GOP is preparing its agenda, according to an Associated Press article. The Tea Partiers who made it into office are trying to do something sane for a change and ban earmarks. Apparently not everyone agrees, specifically Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell. A recent article listed a quote from him from Meet the Press.

With the Midterm elections over, some are already preparing for the presidential election. As these groups prepare, a new voice has risen. From the depths of the Republican Party, a strong voice has united under one banner, the banner of solidarity against a common enemy. That voice rings loud and true, and it says clearly, “Sarah Palin must be stopped.”

President Obama has been busy lately. In a relatively recent Reuters article he spoke about the national deficit, which the article stated is at $1.47 trillion. This is such an incomprehensibly large amount that I am incapable of quantifying it. The main point of the article was mostly to state how screwed the country is if we keep traveling down the path of deficit spending.

From the Associated Press to the Atlantic Wire and beyond, President Barrack Obama’s new stimulus plan is gathering the expected amount of controversy and bile. As stated in the previously mentioned Wire, the plan has two main chunks: “A $100 billion tax credit for businesses and $50 billion on infrastructure spending.”

For the greatest example of American perseverance, entrepreneurship and drive, few examples of the 21st century are as striking as the new recipe of Domino’s Pizza. Bear with me here.

The new choice for the Supreme Court has been named, and that name is Elena Kagan. Unlike some other choices for the current vacant Court position, I’ve never heard of her, and I’m not alone. Perhaps some anonymity is a good thing, but it’s also a bad thing.

So the idea for a rail between Ann Arbor and Detroit is being delayed.

Spring has arrived, in all its depressing, beautiful glory. With the semester coming to a close I find myself working to prepare for final exams, and yet at the same time so many obscure things are happening that I have an opinion on. So I have compiled several of them to get them out to the world efficiently while I prepare for finals.

What happened to America? I wonder this when I think about the past. Being a history major I tend to do that.

In tough economic times, people tend to look for new jobs. Usually against their will, as their old job is no longer there for them. With an increased emphasis on education, these people will likely go back to college to earn a degree. Others go to community college for speed and to learn a trade. But as long as there are those who look to better themselves, there will be those who prey on them. These people are the for-profit colleges and trade schools.

A while ago I expressed doubt about the bipartisan health care summit, because even with Obama there I believed the GOP would slip to its standard platform of “whatever the Democrats want is the spawn of Satan and must not pass.”
