Depot Town decorated the streets with a giant Christmas tree Saturday. The lighting of the Christmas tree, as well as the cookies and hot chocolate for those who showed up to the tree lighting, were supplied by Sidetrack Bar and Grill.

In most parts of the world, all it takes is being popular in order to be crowned homecoming king. Here at Eastern Michigan University, however, we like to have better credentials for our homecoming kings. Blake Navarre was crowned 2012 Homecoming King back in October, and there’s more to Navarre than most people know.

The great thing about radio is that, depending on the station, it can play new music or a favorite genre of music. Unlike an iPod, where you end up hearing the same songs over and over again (don’t kid yourself—you may claim you’re always updating your music, but you’re still skipping the same songs), radio has the potential to

Eastern Michigan University’s mascot of 20 years has been a cause of much debate. The eagle that was chosen to replace EMU’s Native American mascot attends football games, parties and events on campus. Swoop stands still and smiles for pictures, hugs children and runs around during sports games. Yet this merry mascot was not always the cause of happiness.

Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin, is everywhere on campus. She’s in the student section wearing a cape, cheering on the Eagles. She’s in her office filling out paperwork. She’s talking to the board of trustees and she’s hanging out in Sherzer looking at stars with the astronomy club. Heck, the woman is even in the news. Little did you know, this omnipresent woman is weirder than you probably ever guessed.

Can they sing with all the voices of the mountain, or paint with all the colors of the wind? Well, no, Eastern Michigan University’s Music and Dance Department does not have the ability to mimic Disney’s “Pocahontas.” But EMU’s Wind Symphony can create music using only wind instruments and a piano, and they will be doing so Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. in Pease Auditorium.

It’s the Rory Gilmore dilemma from season four of “Gilmore Girls,” where Rory can’t find a place to study. Her on-campus room is too distracting, the libraries have the wrong vibe and someone even steals her “study tree.” Just as Rory has to find the best environment for her to study, so do each of the students at Eastern Michigan University.
