“Where are you from?”
With graduation upon us, many will be entering the workforce or going on to graduate programs. And this begs the question: Are we ready to be there?
“I wish real life was a musical,” I lamented to my brother, who proceeded to look at me like I’d sprouted another head.
In the recipe of success we have been taught throughout our school years, college is the main ingredient. Without it, we have been told, our lives will amount to nothing, much in the same way a cake made without flour is nothing more than a mess.
Diversity. We hear about it all the time. It has become the hottest new thing on the market and everyone is eager to show how diverse they are.
Performing artists get their fair share of awards. Between the Grammys, the Oscars, the Tonys and the Emmys, those who contribute to pop culture are presented with hundreds of awards and are recognized regularly for their achievements.
If I asked you to close your eyes and picture a religious person, who comes to mind?
It’s Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. What’s the best way to show your love? Buy stuff. At least, that’s what the endless advertisements for products one might gift on Valentine’s Day are advocating.

There is so much to say on the topic of eating meat: The treatment of animals at the slaughterhouses, how the meat is processed, the health considerations in eating meat, accessibility of quality meat, mass consumption and so on.
Summer is here, and with it comes the golden sun and our mothers’ admonishments to constantly apply sunscreen. The vast array of choices makes it difficult to choose.
Sex ed has come to be the brunt of jokes among high school and college kids today. We laugh when the topic comes up, or when we see the health teacher in the movie Mean Girls saying, “Don’t have sex. ‘Cuz you will get pregnant and die.”
College is a time we all look forward to. It’s a time of weaning ourselves off our families and start gaining our independence. It’s the time when we start making both small and big decisions, immediate and life-long. Where to live? Where to get a job? Stay home and watch a movie, or go out and party? What should I major in? Do I want to start smoking?
Politics have always been a major part of the news, but lately we’ve been hearing about it a lot more; news about mass uprisings against oppressive regimes and corrupt leaders has been pouring out the Middle East.
One of the most irritating things to see is blatantly wrong information being spewed like it is fact by the media or people. What’s worse, yet, is many people will accept the outlet at its word and won’t bother to research the topic before forming an opinion. This, unfortunately, happens frequently, especially in regards to Islam.
People say this all the time, but seriously, is it just me, or does it seem like this semester has everyone with their heads down and super stressed?
Best. Experience. Ever. Ever had one of those? If you have, you know they are extremely satisfying and make you feel so good about yourself. If not, there’s an opportunity for you to have one right here at Eastern.
Pretty much all college kids remember ‘the good old days’ from when we were kids. We all remember what it was like to go bike riding around the neighborhoods, buy overpriced Popsicles from ice cream trucks, play soccer at the local park and many other things besides. One of those would undoubtedly be spending afternoons in a bookstore or renting a movie from a rental store.
