Eagle women drop heartbreaker to Akron, 82-81

Despite junior Natachia Watkins putting up her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 15 rebounds, it was not enough as the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team lost to the University of Akron Zips with 0.07 seconds left, 82-81, at James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron, Ohio.


Cardinals deny EMU back-to-back wins

Not only a basketball game, but more importantly discipline was lost on Super Bowl Sunday as the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team failed to put together its first back-to-back wins of the season, as the team fell to the Ball State Cardinals, 56-41, at the Convocation Center. “We did not fight the adversity the way we needed to,” EMU coach Tory Verdi said.


Stone now is a leader

From a player who went from being a bench player to a physical presence this season, Sara Stone is now one of the leaders of the Eastern Michigan University’s women’s basketball team.


Eagles will travel to Newtown

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team may not be having the best season so far, but there are more important things happening than winning basketball games. Such is the case after tragedies like the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. EMU coach Tory Verdi spent many years of his life nearby, so the town and the people affected are very close to his heart.

	Glenn Bryant was suspended from the EMU men’s basketball team Wednesday following his arraignment on felony assault and domestic violence charges.

Eagle men earn commanding win over Buffalo, 65-46

Glenn Bryant showed no signs of being bothered by a sore knee Wednesday night as the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team beat the Buffalo University Bulls 65-46 at the Convocation Center. “I didn’t miss any practice [all week],” Bryant said after the game.

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team is setting its sights on the University of Buffalo Bulls. Coming off a 77-62 loss to Kent State Saturday, the Eagles will be facing a Bulls squad that also lost on Saturday, 71-60, to the Western Michigan University Broncos.

Men’s basketball continues road losses at Kent

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team (10-11 overall, 3-4 Mid-American Conference) is still winless on the road, dropping its fourth game to the Kent State Golden Flashes (12-10 overall, 3-5 MAC) on Saturday, 77-62.

Freshman Bianca Cage put together another impressive shooting performance, as the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies, 67-62, Thursday at the Convocation Center.

Behind a season-high 40 points from the Eastern Michigan University bench, the women’s basketball team cruised to their largest victory this season, 64-45, Thursday night against the Kent State Golden Flashes at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent, Ohio.

Tory Verdi is in the middle of his first season as the women’s basketball coach for Eastern Michigan University. Before the team boarded the bus for their matchup at Kent State University, Verdi gave The Eastern Echo a few minutes and provided some background on his coaching career and life off the court as well.

Eagle women beat Kent State on the road, 64-45

Behind a season-high 40 points from the Eastern Michigan University bench, the women’s basketball team cruised to their largest victory this season, 64-45, Thursday night against the Kent State Golden Flashes at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent, Ohio. For EMU (4-14, 2-3 Mid-American Conference), freshman Bianca Cage played 23 minutes and scored nearly half of the bench’s 40 points, with 19 from 8-of-17 shooting to go along with 3-of-9 from three-point range. “Bianca stepped on the floor and they played zone and she was our zone-buster tonight,” EMU head coach Tory Verdi said. Junior Desyree Thomas finally had her breakout game of the season as she scored a season-high 12 points.


James Still to face 15 years, 4 in prison

Sentencing was announced Tuesday for former Eastern Michigan University basketball forward James Still. He pled guilty in November to felony assault for an incident in April 2010 when he was a student at Providence College in Rhode Island.


Freshman Jalen Ross hopes to stay close to basketball

Freshman Jalen Ross plays point guard on the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team. He comes to EMU from Greensboro, N.C. which is about an hour away from Raleigh. Ross said it’s right in the middle of Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte.

Women’s basketball loses 70-48

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team, through missed opportunities and lackluster effort, dropped its third consecutive contest, 70-48, Sunday to the Miami University of Ohio RedHawks at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio.
