Men’s basketball lose 74-48

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team went to Chicago Saturday to face the University of Illinois-Chicago, and left having only led twice. The Eagles suffered a commanding loss to the Flames 74-48.


Eagles drop home game to U of M, 55-43

The Eastern Michigan University Eagles lost a tough matchup in front of a predominantly maize and blue crowd of 636 at the Convocation Center to the University of Michigan Wolverines 55-43 Tuesday night. The Eagles are 1-8 on the season, while the Wolverines are 8-2.

Talented team suffers losing season

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team set the bar high over the weekend for the school’s performance over Big Ten basketball teams. In the Eagles’ 47-44 win Saturday at the Convocation Center, they sent the message that the team was in it to win it.

Defense key in EMU win over Boilermakers

In front of 1,790 fans, the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team earned the biggest win of coach Rob Murphy’s era thus far, defeating the Purdue Boilermakers 47-44 Saturday at the Convocation Center.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team continued their early season struggles, falling to 1-6 after a 73-50 loss to the University of Wyoming Cowgirls Saturday at Arena Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo.


Senior Matt Balkema dreams of playing basketball professionally

Matt Balkema, who wears the number 45 for the Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team, was a man of many talents in high school. A three-sport athlete, Balkema attended Cousino High School in Warren, Mich., which is about 30 minutes northeast of Detroit.


Men’s basketball crushes Crusaders

Wins were hard to come by for Eastern Michigan University athletic teams over Thanksgiving weekend, but the men’s basketball team managed to defeat the Madonna University Crusaders Saturday 75-57 in front of 552 devoted fans at the Convocation Center.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team’s late second-half comeback fell short as they lost to the Boston University Terriers 66-55 at the Convocation Center Friday.





James Still let go due to legal issues

Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball player James Still, a junior, was dismissed from the team Nov. 16. Still and a fellow Providence College teammate were arrested in April 2010 for a felony count of assault while attending the Rhode Island Catholic and Dominican College.

Men’s basketball beats Rochester, falls to Gamecocks

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team opened the inaugural Ice Man Classic Nov. 9 with a 66-52 victory over the Rochester College Warriors. The Eagles then faced a 61-54 loss to the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks Nov. 11.

Women’s basketball violates practice rules

The NCAA announced further sanctions on the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team Nov. 8 resulting from rules violations that took place during the 2009-10 season. The team had already imposed sanctions on itself; however, the NCAA handed down its own punishment on several individuals involved.
