Ypsi streetlight upgrade

The cost per city parcel for the scheduled conversion of 260 mercury vapor streetlights to LED along the East Michigan Avenue and Ecorse area was discussed at a special Ypsilanti City Council work session Tuesday night.

Ypsilanti City Council passed the first reading of the “Food Production Amendments” ordinance—omitting all wording pertaining to “hoophouses” or “greenhouses”—at its Feb. 19 meeting.

The City of Ypsilanti will be the first city to participate in two DTE Energy programs that will potentially save the city $23,000 annually in streetlight energy costs.

Jan. 11 Roommates were involved in a physical altercation at 4:43 a.m. at Putnam Residence Hall. A subject was arrested on a bench warrant for violation of conditional bond at 3:53 p.m. at the Student Center.

EMU students use interactive software to create animated store experience Students in Eastern Michigan University’s apparel, textile and merchandising program are using Mockshop, a software program donated by Visual Retailing LLC, a U.K.-based visual merchandising company, to create animated store experiences.

Possible suicide at Peninsular Place apartments

Officers from the Ypsilanti Police Department are investigating the death of a Peninsular Place resident as a possible suicide. According to a press release from the YPD, a 21-year-old Ypsilanti woman was found deceased in her apartment in the 900 block of Railroad Street at 4:35 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11.
