Eagle women drop third straight, 70-48 to Miami-Ohio

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team, through missed opportunities and lackluster effort, dropped its third consecutive contest Sunday 70-48 to the Miami University of Ohio RedHawks at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio.

Women's basketball loses to Toledo 56-40

Despite junior Natachia Watkins’s best efforts to keep her team in the contest with a game-high 16 points, the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team dropped its second game in a row 56-40 to the Toledo Rockets at the Convocation Center Wednesday evening.

Human trafficking based on demand; awareness needed

The 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution reads, “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” Despite this explicit prohibition, slavery still exists in the U.S. today. This is an issue of which more Americans need to be aware.

Facebook’s Graph Search will not replace Google

It seems every Facebook announcement is surrounded by substantial buzz, and the latest is no different. On Tuesday, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Graph Search: A new feature that will allow users to search for specific items within their social circle or, in Facebook- speak, “graph.”

Wrestling drops to 5-9 after 3 losses at Pitt

The Eastern Michigan University men’s wrestling team traveled to Pittsburgh Sunday to take part in the Pitt Duals. The Eagles competed against the Lock Haven University Bald Eagles, University of Pittsburgh Panthers and Bloomsburg University Huskies.

Women’s tennis beats Lopers

The Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team started their regular season on the right foot, taking down the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers in a 7-0 shutout Friday. The meet took place inside the Nebraska Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. All matches were won in two straight sets.

The Eastern Michigan University men’s wrestling team continued their season on the road in Greensburg, Pa. on Saturday to take on the Seton Hill University Griffins.

Possible suicide at Peninsular Place apartments

Officers from the Ypsilanti Police Department are investigating the death of a Peninsular Place resident as a possible suicide. According to a press release from the YPD, a 21-year-old Ypsilanti woman was found deceased in her apartment in the 900 block of Railroad Street at 4:35 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11.

Last second foul spoils MAC opener for Eagles

One foul by senior center Da’Shonte Riley and two free throws by Ball State University turned overtime into a 60-58 loss for the Eastern Michigan University Eagles at the Convocation Center Wednesday night. Despite the tough loss, coach Rob Murphy had a few positive comments about the game and his team.

MI passes law to contain medical marijuana

Michigan lawmakers passed a bill Dec. 14 that requires registered medical marijuana patients to transport their marijuana within a sealed container and in the trunk of their vehicle. If the vehicle does not have a trunk, the marijuana must be stored in a locked container out of reach from the patient.

Students eager for season to start as NHL lockout ends

Sunday was a relief to hockey fans all over North America as it was announced that the National Hockey League Players Association and team owners had agreed in principle on a deal which would end a nearly four month long lockout. Finally, hockey season is upon us; well, pending league ratification.
