Home invasions see 15 percent decrease in Washtenaw County

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that the number of home invasions in Washtenaw County has dropped by more than 15 percent in comparison to 2009. Sheriff Jerry Clayton said in a statement the effects of burglaries are long lasting to victims. “When a burglar breaks into your home, they often take more than just your belongings,” he said.

Eastern Michigan faculty OKs contract to raise pay by 3 percent over 2 years

After months of negotiating, the tentative agreement for a two-year contract for the Eastern Michigan University chapter of the American Association of University Professors was ratified on Monday. The faculty voted to approve the contract agreement with the EMU administration 265 to 18, or 94 percent to 6 percent, according to a statement released by the EMU-AAUP. The agreement will give faculty a pay raise of 3 percent in two years.

In 2008, the young voter demographic was overwhelmingly Democratic, but according to a Pew Research Center survey there are significantly less young people identifying themselves as Democrats now.

Campus Bash draws more than 500 EMU dorm residents

This Saturday on 9/11, 568 Eastern Michigan University students and staff attended the first Campus Bash held at the Student Center from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Campus Bash is an on campus event first conceived in April 2010 by the Residence Hall Association to get more residents, particularly those living in the residence halls, to stay on campus during the weekends.

EMU-AAUP reaches agreement with administration

Eastern Michigan University and its faculty union reached a tentative agreement Tuesday to give faculty a pay raise of 3 percent in two years. The agreement includes a two-year contract, and the union will have a ratification vote Sept.
