Enrollment rise addressed

At a Board of Regents meeting on Tuesday, President Susan Martin said summer enrollment is set to exceed the target of 3.4 percent growth from the same time last year.

Adjunct staff joins union

Eastern Michigan University adjunct instructors gained representation last Tuesday. Ballots proved the majority of voters agreed with the proposal of a union between adjunct professors and the Eastern Michigan University Federation of Teachers.

Team EMU joins Ypsi Relay for Life

On June 19, hundreds of Luminaria lined the walking path at Riverside Park casting a soft ethereal glow into the night for Ypsilanti’s Relay for Life Survivor Celebration. Luminaria are small candlelit personally decorated bags with the names of people who have faced cancer. The $10 spent for each bag to be made all goes to the American Cancer Association’s fight against cancer.

President, Board of Regents address rise in enrollment

The Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents met Tuesday to formally approve a number of business concerns and staff appointments. The meeting opened with a report from President Susan Martin, which highlighted a number of positive achievements made by the university over the last few months.

Americans stay strong in World Cup match

What began as a match England thought an easy start to the World Cup ended with an American upset. In the England vs. U.S. match last Saturday, England took an early lead, scoring its first goal less than five minutes into the cup opener.

Ypsi citizens support cancer research with Relay for Life

Cancer survivors and supporters will participate in the 2010 Relay for Life event at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside Park. Relay for Life began in Tacoma, Wash. Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon, decided he wanted to show support for all of his patients who had battled cancer. Klatt began to raise money for his local American Cancer Society office by running marathons

May 29 — An altercation among players on the basketball court occurred in the REC IM at 10:09 a.m. Citations for disorderly conduct were issued and the case was closed May 30. A subject was arrested on Oakwood St. at 3:34 p.m. for failure to appear and driving with a suspended license. The subject had a bench warrant with EMU police. The case closed May 30.

John Lumm discussed the University's budget, of which allows for 0% increases in tuition, room and board while as also allowing for an increase in staff population and campus renovations.

Budget forum discusses 0-0-0 initiative

Eastern Michigan University president Susan Martin and chief financial officer John Lumm held the first of four budget forums at the Student Center auditorium last Thursday. The forum, which gave an overview of the fiscal year 2010-11 budget overview, was open to all students, faculty and staff for the purpose of transparency and better understanding of EMU’s budget, budget processes and financial position.

Earlier this week, Comedy Central showed a rerun of the South Park episode mocking the global warming hysteria and the Katrina response. In the face of a terrible flood, Stan Marsh asked his father if someone was going to help the people stuck on their roofs after seeing the damage on the nightly news. Randy Marsh, always the stereotype, responded by telling Stan, “[helping the people] doesn’t really matter, son. What matters is whose fault this is.”
