Another semester is almost in the books, but for Eastern Michigan University Athletics, things are only beginning to pick up. Here is this week’s schedule.

COLUMN: Creighton is the real deal

I was following the Eastern Michigan University football coaching search very closely, leading up to Wednesday’s announcement of Chris Creighton’s hiring for the position. Until 8:30 Wednesday night, I was convinced the job would go to Eastern Illinois University coach Dino Babers, a man who turned his program around, going 7-5 and 12-1 in his first two seasons, when the team went 2-9 in each of the two years prior to his hiring. That said, I am really impressed by Creighton – not just on paper, but by hearing the man speak.

The bitterly cold weather did not stop nearly 100 people from attending Thursday’s news conference introducing new Eastern Michigan University football coach Chris Creighton in the atrium of the Convocation Center.

Creighton hired as EMU football coach

The Eastern Michigan University Athletic Department announced the hiring of Chris Creighton as the Eagles’ football coach, replacing interim coach Stan Parrish, who took over after Ron English was fired in November.

EMU wrestling beats Old Dominion University

With a takedown from Khodor Hoballah, the Eastern Michigan University wrestling team earned its sixth win of the season last Friday against Old Dominion University, 21-19.




	The men’s team (1,144 points) finished ahead of Oakland (1,042), while the women (1,042) finished behind Oakland (1,106).

Both of Eastern Michigan University’s swimming teams claimed second place finishes in the EMU Invitational Friday and Saturday. On the men’s side, Eastern Michigan took first place with 1,144 points over Oakland University, which scored 1,042.

Ijah breaks record, track team sweeps heptathalon

The Eastern Michigan University’s men’s track and field team had five athletes compete in the Findlay Oiler Opener on Friday and Saturday and left the competition with a 1-2-3 sweep in the men’s heptathlon.

Eagles win again on road, beat Loyola 82-64

With high tempo offense and suffocating defense, the Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team earned a non-conference road victory on Dec. 4 by defeating Loyola University 82-64, improving to 5-0 on the season for the first time since the 2004-05 season.

Women’s basketball beats UMKC, still undefeated

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team took on the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos, winning 75-66 in a “home game” at the Activities Center on the campus of Madonna University in Livonia, Mich.
