If you are ever stuck with nothing to do on a Friday night, go kick it in downtown Ypsilanti on the first Friday of every month. “First Fridays” were started March of last year, by Eastern Michigan University Alumna Deb Ennis.
On First Fridays, artists, musicians and shoppers to come together on and off campus to enjoy the city. One of the first events of the fall was Jazz Bee’s Jam. Although it was storming outside and the lights flickered on and off in the building, the band kept up really high spirits telling jokes and tuning their instruments.
“It’s a very fun and chill vibe here, anyone can come in and play,” said Lisa Walters, the building manager and a performer at the jam on Friday.
The next First Friday, on Oct. 3, will feature local art and music at locations all over the city.
