The Eastern Michigan University tennis team (14-15, 2-6 Mid-American Conference) fell short of capturing a win at home on Friday, April 16, to Northern Illinois University (15-11, 2-6 Mid-American Conference). The Huskies defeated the Eagles 4-3, earning win number 15 of the season, as EMU falls to 14-15.
Redshirt seniors Luisa Pelayo and Grace Whitney improved their winning streak to three straight, as they defeated NU’s No. 2 pair, 6-3.
NU’s No. 1 pair, and No. 3 pair each won their matchup, knocking EMU down, 1-0, going into singles action.
Moving to singles, redshirt senior Vasavi Ganesan won her matchups, 6-0, and 6-2, at No.4 to put EMU on the board. Redshirt junior Emma-Lou Pommiers dominated at the No. 5 spot, winning 6-1, 6-1. Luisa Pelayo competed at the No. 1 spot, tallying another victory for EMU, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
The Eagles were unable to connect and pick up the final point they needed as they fell to the Huskies, 4-3.
Next up, the Eagles will close out their home schedule as they host a doubleheader which will also be Senior Day for the program. The first match will be played at 1 p.m. against Western Michigan University, followed by Northwestern Ohio at 5 p.m.
