The project was approved by the regents in June and Michigan’s Joint Capital Outlay Subcommittee in September. It’ll be funded by capital reserves and the tuition increase implemented in 2005. Four percent of that increase was specifically dedicated to infrastructure enhancement and has accumulated $17.6 million.” Bravo EMU… another DUMB way to spend money. A tuition increase to cover this. 4% of that to infrastructure enhancement. Has EMU not thought about the fact that there are classroom buildings that need repairs. Residents Halls and Campus apartments that need to be renovated. Does this board of regents think that by constructing this practice facility, the football team is going to start winning games. No they are not. Other people have to suffer because money is spent where it shouldn’t be once again. Better yet they could invest in redoing the first year center heating, cooling, and water system since there has been months on end where there isn’t any hot water. or how about fixing the heating system in the campus apartments so that it will actually work when it is zero degrees outside. The FYC just got new furniture, and PH is being worked on as we speak. While I agree that this amount of money could be spent on something better (EMU is not necessarily known for it’s sports teams), something that supports the “Education First” slogan that EMU has adopted, this ‘bubble’ is not the worst thing we could have chosen.
