A man accused of entering the residence of a female Eastern Michigan University student and sexually assaulting her was arraigned Thursday on one count of first-degree home invasion and felonious assault with a knife and one count of first-degree criminal sexual assault.

Jermain Ulysses Shropshire, 30, was jailed without bond. He is also being charged with another count of first-degree home invasion for breaking into a home on North Adams Street.

His preliminary hearing will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 29. He is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail.

The crime took place at 10:30 a.m. June 14 in the 600 block of West Cross Street. The victim said she awoke to find a man on top of her with a knife. The man sexually assaulted the victim, stole her laptop and fled on foot from the scene, according to the information release to the community.
