WOW I so miss the 4, 5, or 6 win seasons of Jeff Genyk. These Ea-GALS are a joke. In this day and age of 12 game schedules, and games against division II schools it is nearly impossible to lose 13 games in a row. The firing of Genyk was the worst decision EMU athletics has ever made. Here we were on the door step of something special, only to have the “JOKE OF A STAFF” Ron English come in and destroy the program. Truth is, at this point EMU should just drop their football program, if you can actually call what they are “A FOOTBALL PROGRAM”. KARMA will always get you.

It was a difficult game but there is no doubt the team is dramatically improved. The offense had some authority and the “D” was extremely physical. If not for the fumbles, Eastern would have controlled the game. Army took advantage of the young mistakes and that is what cost them the win. They will win this year. If they can improve as much as they did from last year along with the new recruits Ron is bringing in the wins will begin to grow. Go Eagles

Dear Missing Genyk,
First of all, Coach Genyk never won more than four games while at Eastern, and had one 1-11 record.
Secondly, I may agree to a point, that Eastern should be hiring head coaches, rather than promising assistants, but having said that, I think that Coach English will turn things around.
Lastly, If memory serves me correctly, I don’t think Eastern has played any Division II teams in the last two or three years. If you really want to blame people for the collapse of the football program, blame former athletic director Dave Diles and the coach he hired Jeff Woodruff.

So Kenny,
The streak continues. 14 in a row. Unbelievable. Eastern should change their team colors to “PEE GREEN”.
Ironic that you had to correct some of my stats.
Tell me that 4 wins, and a team that actually competes every week doesn’t sound great right now.
Genyk’s last game, EMU broke 6 NCAA offensive records, and beat CMU. Genyk is the only coach in division 1 football to have a winning record against Brian Kelly, and during Genyk’s tenure he won the MICHIAGAN MAC TROPHY 4 out of six years.
No offence, but had EMU shown the patience that Northern Illinois showed with Joe Novak, EMU would have been much further along.
One last thing… How do you go 0-14 with a team that beat CMU, and set a bunch of NCAA records the year before, while having all your best player coming back?
Hire Ron English, and pay him double the last coaches salary. That should work. What a joke.

Dear Missing Genyk,
I don’t know where to start with your continued misinformation. Coach Genyk did not win the Michigan MAC Trophy four out of six years, because even though we defeated Central in those years, we lost to Western.
Joe Novak was producing a winning team by his third season, while Genyk’s best was only a four win season.
Lastly, Eastern did not have all its best players coming back. Losing especially, Tyler Jones at receiver, and Andy Schmitt going down with a season ending injury in the Michigan game. (Which was the fourth game of the season)
I liked Coach Genyk, but it was obvious he was not able to turn the corner with the football program.

Ken (Barna):

I go back a little farther with blame for the collapse of EMU football. If you remember, Roy Wilbanks is the architect of EMU football and its demise. He’s mostly been in charge all of these years, either as a VP and now and Regent. His formula for success does not work. I also agree that English will eventually turn things around. As for Diles, he was pretty bad. Tim Weiser was also a pathetic AD, during the Shelton era.

EMU has won the Michigan MAC Trophy for football twice (out of five years it’s been awarded). In 2007 the Eagles beat Central 48-45 and beat Western 19-2, to win the trophy. In 2008, each team went 1-1, so EMU retained the trophy. Central has also won it twice (2006 and 2009), while Western has won once (2005 — the first year the trophy was awarded).

Boy, have we all taken our eyes off the ball.

No more fact checking. Here is one that cannot be argued.

0-14. Please just win ONE game. This is embarrassing.

It is funny how we are spending time figuring out if Genyk won 4 or 5 games, and if he won 2 or 3 Michigan MAC Trophies.

Any way you slice it, Genyk was far more successful than English.

Like I said in my first comment, EMU was close to respectability, and now that is gone.

Lastly, I am really surprised at how many of you continue to drink the “GREEN Kool – Aid”. What exactly has given you any hope that EMU and English will turn around this program? The ultimate statement is 0-14!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Missing-Genyk,
Do you attend Eastern’s games? The reason I am asking is that I have been at 90% 0f Eastern’s home games since I graduated in 1965. I know what it is like to suffer through one losing season after another, and yes I am sick of it, but what am I to do? Eastern is my school, so I try and support whatever is on the field, and hope that 1987 will come around again. I’m absolutely hoping that Eastern will win some games this year.
Just want you to know that there are different frustration levels, and I think I qualify for suffering alot more than the average hop-toad out there.

I was at the Army game and that run defense is as bad as last year’s atrocious run defense. I shudder to think what Ohio State is going to do to us. That game could embarrass the university to the point where the team just packs it in. If that happens, an unprecedented two YEAR losing streak may occur. We deserve better than that. As an avid college football fan, I was not overly impressed with Ron English as a D-coordinator at U-M or Louisville. I did not feel he was the best choice as head coach. That said, I would like to see what hotshot QB Devontae Payne can do. He is 6-6, with a rifle for an arm, and was highly touted coming out of Cleveland. Several big schools showed interest. If we don’t play him, we will lose him.
