Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin approved the investment of roughly $78,000 of the university’s 2012-13 contingency fund this year to upgrade the 42 blue light emergency phones located around EMU’s campus. The upgrade was prompted by the Aug. 24, 2011 unarmed robbery of EMU student Darin Thomas Smith
outside the Warner Building.

Eastern Michigan University’s Student Government began preparations August 19 for the fall 2012 semester, which will begin Sept. 5, at their Summer Summit meeting that included an official senate meeting, as well as multiple workshops to train new senators and directors.

Soaring high above the clouds as a pilot has been a lifelong dream for Chris Sorenson, who recently became the director of operations and chief flight instructor of Eastern Michigan University’s Eagle Flight Center at Willow Run Airport; initially Sorenson wanted to obtain his pilot’s license and go to work for the airlines, but his plans changed once he got a taste of teaching.

Thirty Eastern Michigan University faculty members — including two former administrators and one emeritus faculty member — encompass the top 50 highest-paid employees at the university.
As reported in the April 4 edition of The Eastern Echo, former provost and current social work professor Donald Loppnow earned $267,506.58 in 2010, making him the third top earner overall, and the highest paid faculty member.
