Eastern Michigan University students sought holiday spirit in the stars at the school’s planetarium on Saturday. “The Seasons of Light” event held by the astronomy department explored how astronomical movements play into many end of the year celebrations and the history behind these celebrations.

The Eastern Echo sat down to chat with an Eastern Michigan University student, Abigail Snyder, who had previously mentioned she considers herself a “big C” Christian, “little b” Baptist. The Echo aimed to find out more about the Baptist perspective from a practicing, well-informed believer. Snyder attends Bible study weekly at the Eastern Student Center and attends church every Sunday.
The Disney Company has continued its goal of inclusion of the LBGTQ+ community with the Disney Channel series “Andi Mack” which airs on Fridays at 8 pm. The series is the first Disney show or movie to include an LBGTQ+ storyline. Over this season “Andi Mack” will focus on main character Cyrus Goodman (Joshua Rush) coming out. The storyline holds very real emotions of coming out as part of the LBGTQ+ community, including the fear of telling people and feelings that you must hide it to fit in, shown through the eyes of Cyrus Goodman. According to ABC News the subsequent episodes of the season will deal with Cyrus’s “journey to self-acceptance as a gay person.”
The Center for Multicultural Affairs and the Native American Student Organizations held their Annual Fall Feast this past Wednesday, Nov. 8, in the Student Center.
Amid the humidity in the Strong Hall Atrium, it was all smiles and high fives.
Dr. Yvette Colon, assistant professor at the EMU school of social work, speaking at the third installment of the EMU Honors College Star Lecture Series on Tuesday, Dec. 6. The central topic of the 2016-2017 series is "With Justice For All?" and Colon discusses chronic pain and a flawed United States healthcare system.
With one hundred million people in the United States suffering from symptoms of chronic pain, the U.S. health care system was the main topic for the third installment of the Honors College Star Lecture Series at Eastern Michigan University on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Kourtni Talley, student at Eastern Michigan University student, won the grand prize of $1000 at Holiday Inn near the University of Michigan’s third annual College Food Stars cooking competition on Sunday, Nov. 13 for her Avocado Delight dish.

In a collaborative effort to visually illustrate an educational and inclusive environment on Eastern Michigan University's campus, members of the EMU and Ypsilanti community are designing and painting a unity mural on Monday, Jan. 16.
